How Can I Conserve and Reduce Waste?
-
Figure out how to repurpose items in your home before buying new from the store
-
Avoid single use items; buy in larger containers / bulk when possible
-
Avoid buying plastic bottles and drink pouches; use reusable drink bottles instead
-
Bring your own reusable shopping bags to the store
-
Think twice about what you buy.... can you buy things that have been recycled, come in minimal packaging, or can be recycled
-
Compost! Not all items are recyclable but some can be composted to enrich your own gardening soil
-
Twice is nice.... Donate clothes and usable items to your thrift shop; consider buying clothing and other items from the thrift shop or other second hand establishments before buying new
-
Invest in things that can last longer
-
Avoid buying electronics and cell phones simply because they are the "newest."
-
Decrease your junk mail, receipts, and unnecessary paper items
-
Decrease the accumulation of plastics in your home; reuse/recycle storage containers; replace using plastic utensils with metal utensils; decline straws and extra plastic utensils when ordering takeout.
