Government
Vandemere operates under a Mayor–Council form of governance, with each elected official serving two-year terms in nonpartisan elections. The entire team is comprised of the Mayor, Board of Commissioners, appointed Planning Board, and part-time Town Clerk.
The Mayor serves as the Town’s official head, presides over Board meetings, and votes only in the event of a tie.
The Commissioners represent the community and work together to establish policies, adopt ordinances, address residents’ concerns, and oversee the Town’s budget and operations. A paid Town Clerk supports the Board by maintaining official records, files, and the Town Code.
The Vandemere Planning Board helps guide the Town’s growth and development by reviewing development proposals, advising on land use and zoning, and helping shape long-term community plans. The Board also serves as the Town’s Board of Adjustment, hearing appeals and special requests and helping ensure zoning regulations are applied fairly.

Vandemere's Waterfront Park is where the adventures begin! Boat access at the park is first class, and where all types of boats (kayaks, canoes, jet skis, motored boats) can launch from. Start a day trip to Ocracoke on your boat from here, enjoy paddling around and taking in nature, or simply go fishing in and around the Pamlico Sound. By the way, our seafood is outstanding.​​
Nature paints a new picture here every morning and evening. Sunrise and sunsets are simply breathtaking. Bird watchers can enjoy spotting pelicans, osprey, bald eagles, turkey, cranes, humming birds, woodpeckers, owls, and more. On the water you may see dolphins, skates, jellyfish, or river otters. And of course all around watch for deer and the occasional bear!​
