Greetings from the Town Mayor! Thank you so much for visiting our website and welcome to Vandemere. Our residents are the friendliest around, and the surrounding nature we enjoy provides for endless outdoor excursions!​
Vandemere's Waterfront Park is where the adventures begin! Boat access at the park is first class, and where all types of boats (kayaks, canoes, jet skis, motored boats) can launch from. Start a day trip to Ocracoke on your boat from here, enjoy paddling around and taking in nature, or simply go fishing in and around the Pamlico Sound. By the way, our seafood is outstanding.​​
Nature paints a new picture here every morning and evening. Sunrise and sunsets are simply breathtaking. Bird watchers can enjoy spotting pelicans, osprey, bald eagles, turkey, cranes, humming birds, woodpeckers, owls, and more. On the water you may see dolphins, skates, jellyfish, or river otters. And of course all around watch for deer and the occasional bear!​
Our Community is awesome. Town events are inspired and managed by the residents who ensure that they are family oriented and memorable. We are excited to welcome new people to the community as we journey together in realizing the Town's Vision.

Mayor-Council Administration
The Town of Vandemere is governed by a Mayor and five Town Commissioners, all elected through nonpartisan elections. Each serves a two-year term. A paid Town Clerk supports the Mayor and Commissioners by preparing and maintaining official records, files, and the Town Code.
Vandemere operates under a Mayor–Council form of government. In this structure, the Mayor serves as the official head of the Town for legal and ceremonial purposes. The Mayor presides over all Board meetings and votes only in the event of a tie.
The Commissioners represent the interests of the entire community. Working collaboratively, they develop and review ordinances, policies, and bylaws, serve on planning efforts, represent residents’ concerns, and help establish and oversee the Town’s budget.
The Vandemere Planning Board helps guide how our town grows and develops. They review new development plans, give advice on zoning and land use, and help shape long-term plans for the community. The Board also acts as the Town’s Board of Adjustment, which means they hear appeals, consider special requests, and make sure zoning rules are applied fairly.
