About
In 1895, the Reverend W. F. Fry, an African American resident of Vandemere, founded a weekly newspaper known as the Pamlico Herald. Although the duration of the paper’s publication remains unclear, Reverend Fry’s legacy is well documented. He was widely respected as an editor, educator, school principal, and pastor of several Baptist churches. His work was marked by intellect, vision, and courage, advancing bold ideas and initiatives at a time when such leadership carried significant personal risk.
